A Kid’s Food Party with Tapas

Children will definitely enjoy partying with their buddies and parents at a tapas party.  A special setting will add to the fun.

The Flavor

Tapas can be made mildly flavored for young children who may not take well to strong flavors. Adding in freshly cut apple slices and blueberries with cheesy bites and vegetables make it delectable and exciting for children.

Excitement

To make it more fun for children the party can be held outdoors if the weather holds good. Plastic under liners can also be utilized under the table cloth to clean easily.

Colors

Keeping in line with the colors of Spain, you could decorate the party table with red, yellow, and black balloons, streamers, flowers. Tableware in these colors would also add a nice touch.

Serving Instructions

Serving tapas on a long rectangular table accessible on all sides is perfect, as it allows easy access to everything and makes it possible to have many different dishes on the table. A set of matching smaller round tables can be decorated and used for children to sit.

Begin by placing a plastic liner on the table and then placing your tablecloth over the top. A red table cloth that is well picked, would work well, and in keeping with the theme. Plan your table layout taking into consideration your menu. Keep the plastic plates, napkins, utensils, and cups to one end of the table so they are easy to grab, and move the party-goers in a clockwise or counter-clockwise pattern, as you would a buffet. Once you have spent time and decided on the serving dishes, you can place them without any contents on the table and then arrange your flowers, balloons and decor around the dishes.

You should have many main bowls or serving dishes with a basic tapas encircled by a series of condiment bowls for ease of use. Always ensure that the food is an accessible distance from the edge of the table, and that proper serving utensils are used, so that the children are not reaching across for their food.

Adult tapas

Traditional tapas are meant to cater more to adult tastes, with ingredients like squid, grilled peppers, capers and anchovies, but they can also be made to suit a child's taste.

Good Combos

Mini pitas or very thinly sliced and toasted baguettes, can be topped off with a little bit of tomato sauce, a thin slice of Serrano ham and a thin slice of Manchego cheese. Additional tapas dishes can be diced avocado's and tomatoes, olives, artichoke hearts, mini-dill pickles, cooked and shredded chicken, diced cucumber, or diced hard-boiled egg. Have salt and pepper on the individual tables as needed. A large bowl of saffron rice can be made as an accompaniment.

Refreshments

For a yummy refreshing drink, you can make a large punch bowl or pitcher full of "Mock-Sangria" for a twist. Add equal quantities of orange juice, cranberry juice, and sparkling cider together. Slice a few oranges, a few limes, and also a few lemons into 1/4 segments and then add to the juice mixture, along with some maraschino cherries. Prepare this mixture one to two hours prior to the party to let the flavors mix well. You can now serve this drink in cups garnished with slices of orange and maraschino cherries.
